JELLY CABINET BUILD

This little cabinet was patterned after a jelly cabinet I have had for years. When I originally built it, I didn’t add the feet, but I found it to be a little top heavy and it would tend to lean when I opened the door. So we added the bun feet, wide set, and that solved the problem. This little cabinet is the best place to store all of my candles. Let’s talk about the build, here’s what you will need.

1 sheet Wainscoting panel board

1×6 (30 feet)

1×3 (12 feet)

1×6 (4 feet)

brads/brad gun (or nails)

magnetic latch

2 hinges

paint

4 small bun feet

Cut 2 side boards out of 1×4 at 4 feet, cut 1 bottom board out of 1×4 at 3 feet, cut 1 top board out of 1×6 at 4 feet, cut 3 shelf boards out of 1×3 boards at 3 feet wide. For the ease of measuring, attach side boards to side of the bottom board so it is the same width as shelves, and seam will be hidden by the door. Use nail gun and brad (or hammer and nails) to attach side boards to the shelf boards and then attach top board. You may have to trim so that there is an even amount on each side that is 2.5-3″ overhang on each end. Keep the back flush, the front will overhang.

Measure the width and height of the cabinet and cut the panel board to create a back and a front, attach the back with the lines inward so they will show in the back of the cabinet when door is open. Cut the 1×2 trim boards to create a trim for the front door, attach on the front of the panel board, keep the lines toward the front. When build is complete, paint cabinet structure and bun feet. When dry, drill holes and attach bun feet. Use glue and short brad nails to attach, when dry, paint cabinet door. Attach doors using hinges and attach magnetic latch to cabinet and board.

We enjoyed making this little cabinet, and it makes the perfect little addition to this side of the fireplace. I love it.
