Homemade Vanilla

Vanilla made from scratch, in your kitchen with just 2 simple ingredients! It doesn’t get any better than this!

Do you like to bake? Do you enjoy spending time in the kitchen whipping up cakes and cookies and all sorts of sweet culinary delights? If so, then I have a treat for you! Today I’m sharing with you my homemade vanilla! Have you ever noticed how expensive good vanilla is? And the imitation is just a tad short of grand. Let me show you how to make your own vanilla, and share with you how inexpensive it is, and it tastes fabulous too!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. A large mason jar
  2. A bottle of vodka ( chose a mid-range brand, Svedka)
  3. Vanilla beans (I had 10, I got them on Amazon)

That’s it! And it’s so simple, even the most challenged in the kitchen can do it! just pour your vodka into the jar, put you beans on a cutting board and use the tip of a knife to split the beans open. Please the beans in the jar and put the lid on. Now wait 3-6 months and you will have amazing vanilla!

It’s super fun to pour into individual serving jars (here are the ones I used) and give as Christmas gifts or to have on hand for special visitors who might stop by. I hope you’ll give this a try, it’s so easy and fun and it’s always special to know you made it yourself. This is also a fantastic project to involve the kids in, they will be so proud of their work!

xoxo
