EATING OUT – TEXAS ROADHOUSE

One of our favorite places to go for dinner is Texas Roadhouse. Did you know you can download their app and within it you can put your name on the waiting list to save you some time when you arrive. Love that! I also love that they have excellent options on the WW plan, or if you are just trying to eat out and eat better. Here’s what I choose when we visit!

Does that look like diet food? Y’all, this meal is so delicious and filling. Here’s what I get, and how I order it.

Appetizer. My hubby loves to have an appetizer when he’s deciding on dinner and waiting. My go to pre-WW was the Tater skins with sour cream. 1 order of skins will cost you 28 points, 1/8th is 4 points plus the sour cream. That’s a high point item and the payoff is so/so. We’ve switched and started ordering the fried pickles. The entire basket would cost you 18 points, 1/8th order is 2 points (thats about 4 chips) or 1/4 order for 5 points plus dipping sauce. We always go ranch, if you request fat free ranch, 1 order (2 oz) is 6 points so half the container would be around 3 points and 1/4 the container is 1 point. Total appetizer points, if you eat the lower amount options is 3 points.

Next up- I always order a salad. Filling my tummy with the greens helps me take dinner more slowly and I’m able to enjoy it more. When I order my salad, I get the house and request NO cheese and NO croutons, this makes your salad 0 points. As you can see, my salad came with both (honestly, this evening, this was my second salad, the first was dropped on the floor before it made it to the table). I’m not high maintenance so I just pick off the stuff I don’t want. I had already started picking before I remembered to get a photo. I request fat free ranch for the salad and I use the “dip tine” method, I don’t dump the dressing in, I dip the times in the dressing then get my salad and eat. I usually end up using less that 1/4 of the container they bring which is 1 point.

I like to have a glass of water or unsweetened tea with my meal. This is 0 points.

So far we are up to 4 points. I do skip the bread basket on most occasions. If its the end of the week and I have extra points in my weeklies I may have a roll, they are so good. One roll at TR is 7 points and the honey cinnamon butter is 4 points per container which is about 4 tsp. I didn’t have bread on this trip and I didn’t get a pic of it.

The main meal. My GO TO is the herb crusted chicken, 0 points in the WW app and worth every single bite. For side I usually get green beans 2 points, and the second side is one of 3 options depending on my point count.

Option A is mashed potatoes (full order – 10 points / half order – 5 points). White gravy on the side (6oz order 13 pt / half order – 6 points or 1 oz for 2 pts). Always order it on the side or you will be drowning in gravy points.

Option B is corn (1 order – 3 points)

There is also the option for broccoli (5 points per order) or a plain baked potato (12 points). But I don’t like cooked broccoli and I don’t eat baked potatoes that I can’t control how its made, because these are made with oil.

My meal cost me roughly 13 points and was amazingly delicious!

So, that is eating out at Texas Roadhouse. I skip dessert, it’s not for me. If I need something sweet, I will get a one point brownie when I get home. I hope this helps you to make better choices when you are out for dinner. Enjoy friends!
