DIY BOARD & BATTEN
What do you think? I hope you think it is as beautiful as I do! Board and Batten is a fabulous way to take an awkward space and make it pop! I added it to 2 places in my home, here in the entryway; and also in my kitchen by the stove. That was the most awkward space, but now it has some charming board and batten and it adds a nice layer of texture! Doing board and batten yourself if so easy! It’s actually a great first time DIY project all you need is a saw, some 1×4 boards, some 1×3 boards (and a couple 1×2’s if you want…

CABBAGE ROLLS
Let me tell you a secret, I don’t like cooked cabbage. Ok, thats a broad statement, I like egg rolls, and I like raw cabbage but cooked, no thanks. It stinks….BUT…. have you ever made cabbage rolls? Friend, let me say, I loved them! The cabbage is essentially tasteless, I guess that’s because they didn’t boil with the meat? I don’t know, but I know this, they are yummy and I’ve made them more than once already! Look how beautiful these are, yes, so good! I have the recipe right here, my sister in law is and amazing cook and she makes some delightful things, so here ya go friends!…

LAUNDRY ROOM REFRESH
So, we did a thing! We put up some tile! We got a wet saw and put some subway tile under the cabinetry, and I think it made such a difference! Our first time with tile, mortar, and grout. It was a learning curve and I think we did a good job! How boring is that before! Let’s take a peek at what we used!!! We used mortar and grout and subway tile that was on a grid which meant no spacing needed! The wet saw was fun! My hubby got pretty soaked, but it was a small and quick learning curve. Putting it up was easier than we thought….…

MICROWAVE FLOWER DRYING
My family experienced a great loss this past September when my Aunt Rita passed away. At her funeral, my uncle got her the most beautiful spray of yellow roses. At the end of the service, as is tradition, I took one of the flowers covering her casket and brought it home. I had it in a vase for several days, it was so beautiful. I knew I wanted to find a way to preserve it. I decided I would try a new method of flower drying, using a microwave. Boy, did it work well! I couldn’t believe that one minute this rose was in a vase and literally 10 minutes…

CHANGING SEASONS ON THE HOMESTEAD
The joys abound around the homestead in the last days of summer and early Autumn. Our apple tree is giving up her fruit, the garden is sharing the last bounties to harvest. My favorite harvest this season was the potatoes! I’ve never planted or harvested potatoes and it was so fun, it’s really like digging for treasure! I got the last of the jalapeños and chili peppers and made jalapeño salt and Hawaiian pepper water! So hot, it burnt my eyes to cook those chili peppers! I dried my jalapeños out in the food hydrator and it turned out awesome. We mowed down the corn stalks and weeds that were…
